VANCOUVER, Wash. (KOIN) — Though the votes tallied in the race for Clark County commission chair are unofficial, Marc Boldt is leading Mike Dalesandro, with write-in candidate Liz Pike a distant third.
As of 8:08 p.m., Boldt had 40.69% of the vote, while Dalesandro garnered 37.9%. Pike, the write-in candidate favored by Commissioner David Madore, received 21.41%.
Madore’s name is not on the ballot, but he is an issue in the race. He spent hundreds of thousands to defeat Mark Boldt 3 years ago. Now if Boldt wins, he’ll get some revenge by becoming chair of the new county council.
Boldt said Madore’s presence in the race is a bit of a factor. “As an individual he has a lot of talent,” Boldt said. “I just think he’s kind of used it in the wrong way.”
Liz Pike opposed light rail over a new bridge and is working now on a new bridge proposal without light rail.
“I’m a conservative Republican and I’ve made no secret of that,” Pike told KOIN 6 News. “There’s clearly a conservative majority on the council but there are also some things I think could be better. For example, civility.”
Democrat Mike Dalesandro said he is the alternative to the conservative divisiveness of the past. Reuniting the new council and rebuilding positive working relationships on the council are his top priorities.
