Affidavit: $11K in funny money recovered in SE Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 31-year-old man was arrested with over 100 counterfeit bills on Monday evening, court records show.

Adam Davidlawre Arrambide was reportedly the passenger in a car that was stopped near SE 82nd Avenue and SE Powell Boulevard.

According to records, the police officer who made the traffic stop recognized Arrambide from a prior encounter. When the officer ran his criminal record, he discovered Arrambide was a potential suspect in a Vancouver larceny case, according to court documents.

The officer detained Arrambide and did a pat down. That’s when the officer felt a “hard, rectangular object” near Arrambide’s waistband.

Records show the object ended up being a bag of cash. Arrambide told the officer he found the bag at a restaurant along Airport Way, but he wasn’t able to give a description of the man who reportedly left the bag on the ground, records show.

Police recovered 112 counterfeit bills from Arrambide: 58 fake $100 bills that were green, 51 fake $100 bills that were blue and 3 fake $50 bills, according to records.

The United States Secret Service became involved in the investigation and spoke with Arrambide who told an agent he got the bag from a good friend. The agent told the DA’s Office he is familiar with Arrambide’s friend due to a separate investigation out of Lincoln County, according to court documents.

Arrambide remains in custody. He is charged with 10 counts of first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.
