KEIZER, Ore. (KOIN) — A farmer used his tractor to help firefighters control a rapidly burning wheat field fire accidentally sparked by another farmer in Keizer.
The 3-alarm fire was called in around 4:40 p.m. Sunday near 35th Avenue NE and Perkins Road, officials with Keizer Fire said. A farmer cutting chaff in the wheat field sparked the fire which began to spread quickly.
Neighbors in the area were told to be ready to leave. Another farmer, Bob Zielinski, provided his tractor and large disc to help firefighters create a safety barrier, surround the fire and get it under control.
About 10 acres were burned, but most of the wheat field was saved, officials said. No homes were lost and no one was injured.
