PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portland broke the all-time record Monday for daily rainfall, and the wet weather is only expected to continue as the week goes on.

KOIN 6 Meteorologist Kristen Van Dyke says another system of heavy rain and strong winds will move in Tuesday afternoon and continue through early Wednesday morning.

River levels will have time to recede Monday night and Tuesday morning when showers are expected to be light and spotty. But heavy rainfall will move back in after lunch on Tuesday, with wind gusts reaching 35-40 mph.

We can expect another 1-2 inches of rain for the valley by Wednesday morning. By Tuesday night local waterways will likely be back at the flood stage.

Along the coast winds can reach up to 50 mph and another 1-3 inches of rain is expected to fall.

While we probably won’t get this much rain in another 24-hour period, the worst could be coming. We’re going to be tacking on heavy rains over the next couple days which will set up a scenario for more mudslides and problems on the roads.

Another wet system is set to come in Thursday, and it has the potential to be a heavy rainmaker with some of the windiest conditions we’ve seen all week.

Van Dyke says she’ll be watching Thursday’s system closely for the exact track which will determine how strong winds will be.

Either way, expect heavy rain and blustery conditions to continue throughout the work week.

Temperatures are staying way above average with nighttime lows in the 50s, which is warmer than our normal high for this time of year.

A drop in temperatures by the end of the week could bring some mountain snow.
