Oregon City cemetery vandalized

OREGON CITY, Ore. (KOIN 6) — Vandals caused an estimated $8,000 to $10,000 in damaged to the Mountain View Cemetery.

Police tell us employees showed up to find broken windows, burnt flowers and toppled and broken grave stones on Friday.

The suspects likely got into the cemetery on Thursday night by jumping a fence.

Employees also found a heavy granite war memorial bench knocked to the ground.

Police added that water spigots were kicked over. A total of 31 headstones were damaged in the pioneer section of the cemetery, which is the burial site of Oregon City pioneers dating back to 1847. Some of the grave stones, including several of historical significance, are irreparable.

The Mountain View Cemetery is offering a $500.00 reward for information leading to an arrest in this case.
