PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Oregonians will be able to purchase specialty Trail Blazers license plates for their cars starting in late-spring, the team announced Wednesday.
Governor Kate Brown signed House Bill 2730 into law last summer, making the Trail Blazer plates the first-of-its-kind for any professional Oregon sports team.
The specialty license plates will cost $40 through the Oregon Department of Transportation. Funds will be distributed through grants to nonprofits that focus on youth-oriented initiatives across Oregon, the Blazers said in a press release.
“This is a proud and exciting moment for the Trail Blazers,” President & CEO Chris McGowan said. “In addition to fans being able to showcase Trail Blazers pride on their vehicles, the ultimate beneficiaries will be Oregon’s young people.”
Funds from the Blazers plates will help “target the health, well-being, education and development of youth.”
The team revealed the plate’s design at Wednesday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks.
House Bill 2730 also granted the authorization for a specialty breast cancer awareness plate.
