PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — A 19-year-old woman who used a friend’s 4-year-old daughter to solicit money is back in jail.

Danielle Ana Sanchez is charged with one count of first-degree criminal mistreatment.

Police said they responded to a grocery store in Northeast Portland on Dec. 17 on reports of a woman and child walking through the store asking customers for food and money.

Sanchez admitted that she took her friend’s child out with her to panhandle “because she knows she will make more money if she has a child with her,” according to court documents.

Sanchez appeared in court on Dec. 18 where a judge ordered her release only if she posted bail. If she was able to post bail, she was ordered to report to the county’s Pretrial Services.

On Jan. 3, a family member posted bail for Sanchez but she failed to report to PRS, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputy Kari Kolberg made several attempts to reach Sanchez but was unsuccessful.

Sanchez was arrested by Gresham Police on Saturday.

During her court hearing on Monday, Sanchez told her criminal defense attorney that she was visiting her grandmother in the hospital, which contributed to her not complying with her PRS orders. The judge ordered her held in custody unless she posts her full $10,000 bail.
