PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Portland jeweler tried to offer a Washougal American Legion Post a diamond if they would turn their AK-47 over to the Washington State Patrol. Todd Passerini says he was denied.

Passerini learned that the American Legion Cape Horn Post 122 was having a raffle for an AK-47. The shooting in San Bernardino prompted him to offer the legion a one carat loose diamond, worth $3,500, if they would turn the rifle over to the Washington State Patrol.
Passerini says he called the legion four times and wasn’t able to reach anybody.
KOIN 6 News contacted the wife of the President of the legion. She said they were unaware of the offer, but even if they knew about it they would’ve turned Passerini down. She said people already bought tickets to win a rifle, not a diamond.
The raffle was held Wednesday night as planned.
