WOODBURN, Ore. (KOIN) — A rear passenger in a taxi van died when the van was rear-ended by a Chevrolet Avalanche on Highway 99 early Sunday morning.
The crash near Belle Passi Road just outside Woodburn happened around 2:45 a.m., investigators with the Oregon State Police said. The taxi, a Honda Odyssey with Taxi Boy of Woodburn, was headed south when the Avalanche hit it from behind.
Including the driver, Erica Perez Perez, there were 4 people in the Odyssey. One 41-year-old man was in the front passenger seat while a 45-year-old man was in the left rear seat.
Martha Cruz Aldama was in the right rear seat and was killed when the Avalanche hit. The Woodburn woman was 34.
The driver of the Avalanche, Leovigildo Torralba Arzola, was arrested for second-degree manslaughter, driving while under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving and 3 counts of reckless endangering another person.
The investigation continues. Arzola is being held in the Marion County Jail and may face additional charges.
