GRESHAM, Ore. (KOIN 6) – Police on Tuesday identified the 25-year-old man who was shot and killed by a homeowner during an ambush over the weekend.
Eriberto Sumano died of a single gunshot wound, according to the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office.
According to police, Sumano and three other males on Saturday night were at the Rolling Hills Mobile Terrace and R.V. looking for someone as part of an on-going dispute. The 4 males ended up at one of the mobile homes and started pounding on the door, witnesses said. Police said the suspects forced the door open and that’s when a physical altercation erupted.
The homeowner was stabbed, police said, but during the fight, he was able to grab a firearm and open fire. Sumano was hit. The homeowner’s brother was home at the time of the attack. One of suspects was stabbed during the fight, according to police. That person has been identified as 24-year-old Jesus Arciaga Bucio. He has not been charged with any crimes associated to the incident, but is being held on a probation violation.
A 16-year-old suspect was also shot during the incident, police said. He remains in the hospital with “acute injuries,” according to police spokesperson Officer John Rasmussen. He has not been charged in connection to the crime, and his name has not been released.
A 17-year-old has been charged in connection to the case. Police arrested the boy on Sunday and he is charged with one count of first-degree assault and first-degree burglary. KOIN 6 News has confirmed the boy’s name, but due to his age, is not identifying him.
In 2010, Sumano pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree assault for an incident on April 26, 2010. He originally had been charged with attempted murder. Details of the 2010 case were not immediately available.
The suspects are known to have local gang associations but the victim, whose name is being withheld for safety reasons, does not, according to Rasmussen. At least one of the suspects lived in the same complex as the victim and his family.
Police declined to release additional information, citing the on-going investigation.
