Roof collapses after heavy rains clog drains

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Halloween was wettest day in 4 years in the Portland metro, which also meant it was a busy day for emergency responders.

The roof of a recording studio on Quimby in the Pearl District caved in from all the water that pooled from Saturday’s rainstorm. Portland firefighters spent Sunday morning draining that water.

The heavy rains caused leaves to fall and clog drains. That flooded streets, delayed TriMet and contributed to the problems such as the caved roof.

“Just clearing the leaves out of one of these roof drains last week would’ve taken care of this problem,” said PF&R Lt. Aspen Breur.

Drivers and pedestrians didn’t have it easy on Saturday, either. Muddy water rapidly moved down a street in Camas.

Traffic was slowed, roads flooded in the region and the standing water disrupted public transportation.

Officials remind everyone: clean the leaves from your storm drain.
