PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Several hundred people gathered Monday night in protest after the Electoral College formally elected Donald Trump to be the next president.
The local activist group, Portland’s Resistance, organized the protest, calling it a “march for electoral justice.”
The group talked about marginalized groups, questioned Trump’s qualifications to be president and marched through the streets to get attention for their cause.
On the Facebook page for the event, organizers wrote “In order to survive a Trump Presidency, the rise of white nationalism, and widening income inequality, there needs to be a strong resistance.”
The Portland Police Bureau directed protesters away from the Burnside Bridge due to a safety concern. They said protest organizers worked with officers to smoothly move people away.
