BEAVERTON, Ore. (KOIN) — It’s been nearly 2 weeks since the election and in that time, there has been an increase in racism across the country.

Hate crimes have been seen in the Portland area too, encouraging people to rise up and bring equality for all.

A group in Beaverton got together as a chance for like-minded people to make sure there is a place for the community to express their frustration.

Those at the demonstration says there has been an escalation in threats and violence against woman, Muslims, the LGBT community, Jewish people and people of color. Those stories include that of a Hillsboro woman who was recently the victim of a hate crime.

Teressa Raiford, an organizer of Don’t Shoot PDX says her group will provide support through direct, non-violent action and outreach to lawmakers if the group needs help in those areas.

Members of WashCo Solidarity say they shouldn’t have to travel to Portland to feel safe. They want to feel safe in their won community.
