STAYTON, Ore. (KOIN) — A bicyclist died Thursday morning when a minivan hit the bike on Shaff Road near Stayton.
The crash happened around 6:30 a.m. while it was dark and raining, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said. The cyclist,46-year-old Charles Michael Phillips was wearing dark clothing and there was no light on the bike.
That area of Shaff Road near Rainwater Road is unlighted and has very little shoulder, the sheriff’s office said.
The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating. The investigation is continuing and it is unknown if the minivan driver will face any charges.
