Accused Plaid Pantry chainsaw robber indicted

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – The man accused of using a chainsaw and knife to rob a Plaid Pantry has been indicted by a grand jury.

Johnathan Lee Lathrop is charged with four counts of first-degree robbery and four counts of unlawful use of a weapon.

Police arrested him on September 18 after they saw he robbed the Plaid Pantry at Southeast 54th and Southeast Woodstock.

Detectives have since learned that Lathrop entered the store with a running chainsaw and demanded that everyone one give him their money, wallets and keys. If they refused, Lathrop threatened to kill them.

When the chainsaw stopped working, Lathrop pulled out a large knife and threatened an employee, according to police.

Records show that Lathrop has been convicted of 10 misdemeanors. During the jail booking process, he told court staff that he is homeless and uses cocaine and meth, and that he has “anger management issues.”

Lathrop remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
