BURNS, Ore. (KOIN) – Shawna Cox, one of the 7 people on trial in federal court for the conspiracy to take over the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, has filed a lawsuit in Harney County over land rights.
In her four-page complaint, Cox writes that she is “an individual who took hostile adverse possession of the Malheur Wildlife Refuge…to show the people of Harney County how [the] Federal Government is involved in taking their lands and opportunities.”
Cox writes that the land title to the refuge is “seriously clouded.”
Her lawsuit challenges the federal government’s capacity to hold the title to the refuge.
“This complaint is intended to restore domestic tranquility to Harney County that has been seriously damaged by federal government overreach and oppression.”
Federal prosecutors intend to call two more witnesses Tuesday and will likely present 22 long guns and 12 handguns that were recovered from the refuge. The defense teams will start presenting their case this week.
