PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — An 85-year-old Newberg man died after a truck veered into oncoming traffic, striking his Prius on Hwy 99W on Sept. 21.
The pickup truck was pulling a utility trailer loaded with gravel when the driver veered right into the shoulder and then back into the oncoming lane. Investigators don’t know what caused the driver to veer off.
The Prius, driven by 84-year-old Velda Mitchell of Newberg, could not avoid collision with the truck. Velda Mitchell was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and her passenger, Richard Mitchell was flown to the hospital were he died from his injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck was treated for minor injuries.
