Mother seeks $4M after son’s death in crash

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Portland woman is suing a tow truck driver and company after her son died in a crash while riding his bike in May 2015.

Mark Angeles collided with the tow truck driven by Jolene Friedow as she made a left turn. The investigation revealed Angeles likely sped up to get through a yellow light and Friedow legally stopped before making her left turn. She was employed by North Oregon Towing.

The 22-year-old Reed College graduate was a bike enthusiast and organizers of the Reed campus bike co-op.

At the time of the crash, Friedow was not impaired and cooperated with the investigation. She was not held to any criminal charges, but was cited for making a dangerous left turn.

Angeles’ mother, Maria Gemma Angeles is now seeking $4 million in damages. Her lawsuit claims the defendants were negligent for failure to yield to a bicyclist and making a dangerous left turn.
