SALEM, Ore. (KOIN) – A grand jury last month handed up an indictment against the man accused of killing a mother in a high speed crash.
Esteban Alvarez-Ayala will be arraigned on Wednesday in Marion County Circuit Court.
He is charged with one count each of second-degree manslaughter, third-degree assault and reckless driving.
The crash happened on July 21, 2016 along Silverton Road Northeast.
Records show Alvarez-Ayala was speeding when he lost control and crashed into a vehicle driven by Shana Lucas. The assault charge is for causing “serious physical injury” to Lucas’ daughter, who was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
In August, Alvarez-Ayala entered a plea of not guilty.
