PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A man from Utah will appear before a Multnomah County Circuit Court judge on Tuesday accused of killing his friend, according to court documents.
Kelby Blaine Jake, originally from Cedar City, Utah, just moved to the metro area. He was booked Sunday on a murder charge in the death of Martin Richard Ochoa.
Late on September 3, Portland police were called to NE 105th and Sandy for a drive-by shooting report. They couldn’t find a crime scene and there weren’t any victims.
Not long after, they came across Ochoa dead inside his vehicle at NE 111th and Fargo. He died from a single stab wound, not a gunshot.
Jake was detained at the scene and knew Ochoa, authorities said.
According to court records, Jake told court staff that he and Ochoa were “like brothers.” The two, who knew each other for about 3 years, started hanging out together and “were getting high and drinking.”
A motive has not been released.
Records show that Jake has been convicted of making a false police report, obstructing police and numerous drug charges out of Utah.
Attempts to reach Jake’s family for comment were unsuccessful.
