PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — It’s getting hot hot hot in the Portland area!

As temperatures creep closer to 100 degrees, cooling centers will start to open across Multnomah County. A burn ban went into effect on Wednesday.

KOIN 6 Meteorologist Sally Showman says we’ll get the most relief from the heat on Wednesday with temperatures lingering in the mid to upper 80s. But come Thursday, Friday and Saturday, we can expect record-breaking temperatures up and down I-5.

The coast will also experience some crazy heat on Thursday and Friday.

An Excessive Heat Warning will be posted Thursday-Saturday.

Showman says fire danger will be high as northeasterly winds pick up Thursday night and Friday, with gusts reaching 40 mph at the west end of the Gorge.

A Fire Weather Watch will be in effect Thursday night through Friday.

Temperatures are expected to hit the triple digits on Saturday and drop back down to the low 90s on Sunday. Cooler air will push inland at the beginning of next week and temperatures will start to drop with daytime highs returning to the low 80s.
