HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) — A 1,400-acre planned residential development in Hillsboro has broken ground, and city officials have decided to call it South Hillsboro.
Officials came up with the name after working with a branding agency on a marketing plan for the community.
The Oregonian/OregonLive reports that city officials chose to call the development, the groundbreaking for which took place Tuesday, South Hillsboro instead of the name “Hillsboro Commons” that the agency had recommended.
InterCommunicationsInc, a marketing and branding agency from Newport Beach, California, received $33,000 to create a color palette, logo and other features to create a cohesive marketing plan. That plan has been adopted by the city.
City spokesman Patrick Preston says South Hillsboro was chosen because many people already used the moniker for the planned development.
The development is expected to house 20,000 residents over the next two decades with the lowest-priced house anticipated at $300,000.
