PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portland Public Schools has finished testing all water sources in its buildings for lead and is moving on to resolving lead paint issues.

Water test results are available online, and PPS expects a comprehensive report from TRC Industries that will also be available to the public.

PPS is also working on getting rid of lead paint in its buildings, prioritizing schools with Kindergarten through second grade. Contractors will be scraping loose paint then covering it with non-lead based paint.

They are working to get as much as possible done in schools with lead paint before school begins.

The district says 628 people have been screened for lead and so far 5 children and 2 adults have elevated levels. Those people were advised to get more tests done.

PPS continues to provide free blood tests to students and staff and their families. Clinics are scheduled for the next 3 weekends — August 6-7, 13-14, 20-21 — at the PPS district office, 501 N. Dixon.
