PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man is in custody after crashing into multiple cars on Barbur Blvd., then trying to run away from the scene on August 3.

Portland Police said they got reports of a reckless driver and when patrol spotted him, he sped away. They did not pursue him.

At least 7 cars were hit by the Chrysler sedan when he slammed into one car and bounced off several others. The driver then got out and tried to run away across the freeway on foot.

Police caught the driver and took him into custody.

One witness caught that driver in a photo as he tried to run off.

“I pulled out my phone to take a picture and out of the corner of my eye I saw a guy running just as fast as he could away from the scene,” Justin Perkins told KOIN.

Portland Police have not yet identified the suspect, but confirmed he is the man in the photo.

No one was seriously injured in the crash, but those involved had to deal the with headache of reaching out to their insurance companies Wednesday evening.

Ron Campbell’s Camry was hit from behind.

“All of a sudden, I felt like I got rear ended,” Campbell said. “and then I realized the airbags had come down on the side and stuff.”

Campbell says it’s more of an inconvenience than anything else.

“Now I gotta get a rental car and all that kind of jazz,” he said.
