SALEM, Ore. (KOIN) — A 35-year-old mother was killed when a car crashed into oncoming traffic on Silverton Rd. Thursday morning.
Shana Lucas was driving with her 9-year-old daughter when 19-year-old Estaban Alvarez-Ayala hit her car with his pickup truck at 11:20 a.m. on July 21.
Lucas was pronounced dead at the scene. Her daughter, who was riding in a booster seat, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Alvarez-Ayala was arrested on charges of manslaughter, reckless driving and assault. He is being held at the Marion County Correctional Facility.
The Salem Police Department is still investigating this crash and anyone with information is asked to call the Salem Police Traffic Control Unit.
