PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 20-year-old man was arrested Thursday for threatening a 13-year-old boy with a gun and taking his hoverboard.
This happened Tuesday evening near SE 96th Ave. and SE Harold St. According to court documents, the boy and 2 friends were walking near the Lents Market when a Honda pulled alongside them. A man in the backseat asked the boy if he “liked the hoverboard he was carrying.” That’s when Kwaleam Pinkly pointed a gun at the boy.
The victim then dropped the board and he and his friends ran off. One of the friends said Pinkly also pointed the gun at her before he picked up the hoverboard and put it in the car.
The victim’s mother called 911 and police patrolled the area. They found the suspect car and the driver submitted to a search. Police say they found the gun and the hoverboard inside the car.
Court documents say Pinkly admitted to robbing the boy and wrote an apology letter saying he was sorry for threatening the boy’s life with a gun over a hoverboard.
