SANDY, Ore. (KOIN) — A 20-year-old man was arrested for reportedly bringing a concealed handgun into Sandy High School on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Brandon Anthony Teal went to the school with his 18-year-old brother to inquire about enrollment around 2 p.m., Sandy Police Dept. said.

Security officers confronted the men after realizing they weren’t students. School officials and a resource officer confronted them about smelling like marijuana.

The 2 men accompanied school staff into a conference room on campus.

When asked if he had anything he shouldn’t, Teal took out 2 knives, police said. The school resource officer reportedly searched him and found a third knife.

An officer patted him down and found a loaded .22 caliber revolver, police said.

Teal said he was carrying the gun for protection following an incident a few weeks ago. He reportedly told police he had no intention to harm students.

His brother did have an appointment about enrollment, but they showed up at the wrong time. Students were released from classes at 1:45 p.m., before the incident.

Teal is being held on $7,500 bail for unlawful possession of a firearm.
