PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The late 2015 storms that caused flooding throughout Oregon damaged the 122nd Avenue Bridge over Johnson Creek so much it needs to be replaced.
The bridge will stay closed for about 3 years while a new bridge is built, the Portland Bureau of Transportation said in a release. The agency recently received $2.5 million in federal money through ODOT to fund the replacement. PBOT will kick in $300,000 from its general fund for the project.
Sidewalk along the bridge remains open for bikes and walkers, PBOT said.
“We understand a closure of this magnitude will be an inconvenience for the traveling public, and we will work to minimize the inconvenience in the coming weeks and during the construction period,” said Portland Transportation Director Leah Treat.
