Police: Man shot in groin during gang shooting

GRESHAM, Ore. (KOIN) — An 18-year-old man was arrested Tuesday on attempted murder charges in connection with a shooting, police said.

Carlos Calderon is accused of opening fire in the parking lot of 17899 NE Oregon Street on March 9, Gresham Police Dept. said.

One victim sustained serious injuries to his groin that will be permanent, according to police.

When the victim got out of surgery, Gresham Police Detective Fred Huffman spoke with him and learned the victim had gone to an apartment complex after learning Calderon and another individual were threatening to kill him.

Calderon admitted he was a Sureños gang member and admitted to shooting the victim.

Gang Enforcement Officers arrested Calderon who is charged with attempted murder and first-degree assault among other things related to the shooting.
