NEWPORT, Ore. (KOIN) — After 5 years of planning, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry has a new Coastal Discovery Center with a variety of camps available.

“Newport is a great place for OMSI to teach coastal education because they want to see things in person and touch things,” Anne Armstrong with OMSI Outdoors said. “Being next to South Beach State Park gives us a lot of land that we can explore.”

OMSI instructor Dave Goodrick calls the new center “unique”.

“We take kids of all age groups out to the great wilderness and try to teach them new things they’ve never seen before,” Goodrick said. “They can make connections that they may see in everyday life…take them, connect and expand their knowledge base.”

Kids can attend residential summer camps at the Coastal Discovery Center.
