PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — A 25-year-old man is accused of stealing TriMet tickets while he was employed at a local shipping facility.
Tyler K. McManus is charged with one count of aggravated first-degree theft.
KOIN 6 News has learned that McManus was employed at the FedEx shipping facility in Troutdale. In 2015, TriMet learned that a large volume of tickets had started to disappear. The agency assigned two Transit Police officers to start looking into the matter.
Officers eventually discovered that McManus was opening packages containing the tickets and that he was then reselling the tickets.
According to court documents, the tickets had a value of more than $10,000.
McManus, who lives in Gresham, appeared in court on Wednesday and was arraigned on the grand jury indictment. He remains out of custody.
TriMet has since ended its contract with FedEx, a spokesperson for the transit agency said.
A FedEx spokesperson released the following statement on the situation:
“We regard the security of our customer shipments as a top priority and have zero tolerance for theft. We cooperated fully with local authorities during their investigation and can confirm that this individual no longer works the company.”
