A Clackamas County deputy and a suspect in a stolen VW were injured following this crash along McLoughlin Boulevard at Vineyard, March 14, 2016 (Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office)

The incidents began around 6 p.m. at Silver Springs Road off McLoughlin Boulevard. The owner of a pickup truck called 911 and said a man and woman tried to steal his vehicle. The caller pulled the man out of the vehicle, but the man “reached around his waistband and threatened to shoot,” the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said.

The woman slid over and tried to drive away. But as she did, she crashed the pickup into a telephone pole. Both suspects ran away and the caller lost sight of them.

Deputies called Milwaukie PD for help in looking for the suspects, and the police spotted one suspect just before being told a vehicle was leaving a car sales lot. The driver sped off before Milwaukie police could stop it.

Both deputies and police chased the vehicle, believed to be a Volkswagen, and performed a tactical maneuver near McLoughlin Boulevard and Vineyard Road. The suspect tried to evade the maneuver and hit the deputy’s car. The deputy suffered a minor injury and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

At the same time, another deputy near the first stolen vehicle contacted the owner of second vehicle and confirmed it was also stolen.

Both the man and woman matched the description from the first incident. They were both arrested, and the man was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The Oregon State Police is investigating the crash. No names have been released.
