PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A pedestrian believed to be under the influence of intoxicants was hit by a car in Northeast Portland Monday night, police said.

The 48-year-old man was hit by a driver, who was not impaired by intoxicants, at NE 104th Avenue and Halsey Street just before 8 p.m., Portland Police Bureau said.

He was taken to the hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said.

Investigators believe the intoxicated man stepped into the road before being hit.
