PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — When Joel Hibler was honorably discharged from the US Marines after serving a tour in Iraq, he returned to the Portland area and put his memorabilia into storage.

But when he went to his unit at National Storage Centers in Northeast Portland on Thursday, he discovered much of it was gone.

“Boxes were taken that have pictures, just stuff that really doesn’t have any value to anyone else except to me,” Hibler told KOIN 6 News. “Significant parts of my life that I put away that I thought were going to be secure in a storage facility. But, basically, someone was able to come in and walk off with all my stuff.”

Actually, he said, not everything was taken. But the boxes that were taken wouldn’t be worth much to anyone except him.

There was no sign of a forced entry, and the stolen boxes included memorabilia with sentimental value. That makes this theft even more questionable, he said.

It’s not clear when the items were taken. The manager of the storage center at 8436 NE Marx Drive in Portland said they are combing through weeks of surveillance footage.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the local police.
